Know More About Allergic Fungal Sinus Infections

Most medical professionals all over the world define sinus infections as swelling and inflammation of the paranasal sinus and the nasal lining, caused either by the presence of infection or weakening of the immune system. Sinus infections are classified into two types, mainly depending on the duration of time for which the symptoms are visible.
Acute - This is defined as a sudden onset of flu like symptoms, such as a stuffy nose and facial pain that lasts for around two weeks. Commonly confused with the common cold, this type of infection lasts for less than four weeks.
Chronic - A chronic infection displays the same kind of symptoms but lasts for more than eight weeks and can recur frequently after short durations.
Some of the common reasons for the occurrence of a sinus infection are:
Viral infectionsViral infections can often wreak havoc on the nasal lining. These have the ability to weaken the cilia, present in the nose. If this condition is left untreated, then the cilia can get completely destroyed which will reduce the ability to eject any mucus. In this way, it will produce an environment suitable for the infection and lead to severe sinus infection.
BacteriaThe sinuses often present bacteria with the perfect conditions for their growth. This can occur usually when the openings of the sinuses become blocked, which does not allow any of the dust and grit to come out, which instead begins to accumulate inside it. This leads to the improper functioning, which will further lead to more inflammation and thus, a raging sinus infection.
AllergiesAnother main cause for sinus infections is found to be allergies, which have been caused by atmospheric conditions or allergens. These allergens can be anything and these infections can be taken care of by taking appropriate antihistamines.
However, there are some allergies that are caused by the presence of environmental fungus which are in the form of aerosols. This is most commonly seen in people who have developed a weakened immune system, either through some kind of disease or some other immune deficiency. These form a major part of sinus infections and often require surgical intervention.
In addition to surgical methods, there are also many herbal remedies that have been very effective in the past. Due to this they are a preferred method, as they have a long lasting effect without any extreme side effects.
