Your Baby's Development on its 15th Week

Week 15 is another milestone for your baby. Since conception, your baby has improved a lot and in the next couple of weeks, expect for more changes to take place.
This week, your baby is about the size of an orange or apple. His size from rump to crown is about 4 1/2 inches now. The baby's bones continue to lengthen and grow. The hairs begin to sprout on her scalp. The baby is now capable of wiggling her fingers and her toes. His eyebrows and eyelashes are now beginning to grow and the head is now resting on the neck. And lastly, your baby is now capable of making different facial expressions.

What Can You Expect

By this time, your pregnancy can cause you little breathlessness. This continues as the baby grows bigger because your uterus tends to push up to your diaphragm. This leaves a little room for your diaphragm to expand when you breathe. The surge of pregnancy hormones in your body can cause inflammation in your gums and teeth. This makes the teeth and gums susceptible to bacteria and plaque. The surge of progesterone can cause nosebleeds and chronic stuffy nose.

Since your baby is getting bigger now, you can expect weight gain to manifest. It is pretty normal to gain half pound this week, then a pound and a half next week. Make sure not to gain more than 4 pounds every week as this can create negative effects to you and to your baby later on.

Pregnancy symptoms such as occasional headaches, dizziness and faintness as well as bloating, constipation, indigestion, heartburn and flatulence continue to manifest this week. Varicose veins are likely to appear this week due to the increasing pressure on the veins of your legs. Lower abdominal pains are very likely to be experienced this week due to the expanding and stretching uterus.

Healthy Lifestyle for a Healthier Pregnancy

Pregnant women are facing a lot of uncertainties during their pregnancy. To reduce the risk associated with the mother as well as the baby's health, pregnant women are usually prescribed with supplements. Apart from this, doctors usually recommend maintaining a healthy lifestyle. A fit lifestyle is comprised of a healthy diet, avoidance from alcohol and quitting smoking. These activities are said to be effective at reducing the baby's risk for certain conditions.

Fruits such as apples are one of the healthiest and safest foods to eat during this very crucial period. The fruit is exceptionally rich in fibre which makes it an effective aid in eliminating body wastes. Also, it is effective in preventing the onset of certain types of cancer including colon, liver and breast cancer. Through its pectin content, apple is effective in preventing the onset of diabetes.

Apples are also great sources of Vitamin C which is beneficial in developing the body'sresistance against diseases and in eliminating free radicals. Its antioxidantcontent makes an effective armour against cancer. Also, apples provides a high levels of B-vitamins including thiamine, pyridoxine and riboflavin which are scientifically proven to be effective in optimizing the functions of the organs and systems of the body. The fruit is also fortified with nutrients such as potassium, phosphorus and calcium.

Keeping a Healthy Pregnancy with an Apple a Day

A healthy diet for pregnant women is normally composed of fresh fruits and vegetables as they contain high levels of vitamins, minerals and nutrients that help in enhancing the baby's brain and development. According to research, apples are excellent foods to eat during pregnancy.
As the saying goes, "an apple a day, keeps sickness away". Not surprisingly, eating apples during pregnancy is an excellent way to reduce children's risks for asthma later on. In a study conducted at the University of Aberdeen, it was found out that mothers who eat at least four apples every week were almost 50% less likely to have asthmatic children later on.

Apples are said to contain high levels of phytochemicals known as flavonoids whose deficiency is associated with certain conditions such as bronchial hypersensitivity, lung malfunction and asthma. Apples are in fact excellent sources of Vitamins E and C which play vital roles in protecting the lungs. Also, this fruit is fortified with quercetin which acts as a natural anti-histamine that relieves allergies and asthma.

Some of the Most Common Bladder Problems That You May Not Be Aware of

Just like other body organs, the bladder is also prone to complications that make it fail in functioning normally. This is caused by various bladder problems that encroach on the vital organ and begin to damage it gradually. As a matter of fact, most bladder problems can exist for a very long time without being noticed. This is because most people think they are normal as long as they can urinate.

Researchers have proved that women are more prone to bladder abnormalities than their male counterparts. This is probably due to the fact that majority of all the cases that have been reported in health institutions revolve around women especially those who are still sexually active. The main function of bladder is to store liquid waste and the waste here includes liquids that are sifted from the blood.

Symptoms
Most problems manifest themselves in several ways. The most obvious indicator is the strong urge to urinate frequently even when the person has not consumed any liquids. Secondly, urine may leak from the bladder uncontrollably. Such a condition is referred to as incontinence and is usually remedied using a straight catheter.

In addition to that some patients experience difficulty while urinating and therefore spend more time in the lavatories than healthy individuals. Some bladder complications are induced by other illnesses such as sexually transmitted diseases that causes the urine to change in color. The variance in color is normally caused by the presence of blood particles in the urine.

Causes
There are various underlying causes that are believed to increase the chances of developing bladder problems. Enlarged prostrate has been identified as the major inducer in men. The overgrown prostrate causes the urethra to be obstructed and therefore hinders smooth flow of urine from the bladder into the urethra.

Women who prefer to use spermicidal are more prone to bladder issues. Moreover, expectant women and overweight people are very likely to suffer from these problems. This is because their bladder muscles are not strong enough to control the flow of urine. People who suffer from spinal injury are also susceptible to bladder issues. When the spine is injured, it can o longer convey body signals to the brain and therefore the patient is unable to control his bladder.

This is common in patients who are confined in beds and wheel chairs.
Diabetes is also known to cause bladder problems because it impairs the nervous system. Furthermore, people who experience constipation for a long period of time may also suffer from these bladder problems.

Treatment of Bladder Problems
There are various approaches that can be used to treat bladder problems. For patients who are not able to urinate at ease or those who report urine leakages, the use of straight catheter is highly recommended.
The straight catheter is inserted directly into the bladder to manually empty urine from the bladder. One end of the catheter is linked into a plastic sac that is used to contain urine that has already been extracted from the bladder. The straight catheter is made from plastic materials and is therefore safe for use because it does not rust as opposed to metallic materials.

Key Benefits of Facial Liposuction

Whether your goal is to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles or enhance the skin for a more youthful appearance, you have several options for improving your looks.
Facial liposuction is a minimally-invasive procedure that can remove excess fat around the jawline, cheeks and other areas of the face that may be adding years to your appearance and offers several benefits for both men and women.
Dr. Babak Azizzadeh, a cosmetic surgeon in Beverly Hills, claims that facial liposuction poses far less health risks than many cosmetic procedures and can be combined with other treatments, such as a facelift, for a dramatic improvement.

Benefits of Facial Liposuction

1. Lower risk of infection. The facial liposuction procedure doesn't require extensive incisions and will not touch any major organs. You can look forward to a lower risk of infection as a result, and may be far less likely to experience discomfort and long-term side effects from the procedure.

2. Speedy recovery. While you may experience slight discomfort after the anesthesia wears off, any bruising and redness will disappear within a few weeks. Three to six months for complete recovery is the average time for most patients to see the full benefits of the procedure.

3. Lower levels of scarring. Since the liposuction cannula is so small, there is very little scarring involved with the procedure. Facial liposuction can be performed in discreet areas of the face so that scars can be hidden with ease. In some cases, these scars can even be reduced or removed with scar removal procedures or skin rejuvenation treatments such as microdermabrasion.

4. Valuable addition to diet and exercise. Since it can take an extensive amount of dieting and exercise to reduce fat in the face, facial liposuction can be a valuable addition to a weight loss program. It helps remove fat from the jaw line, cheeks and neck area that cannot be reduced with even the healthiest diet and consistent exercise program.

5. Complete removal of fat cells. The liposuction procedure itself removes all fat cells from the treatment area; since fat accumulation and excess fat are the result of the expansion of existing fat cells, your treatment prevents fat from quickly re-accumulating in the treatment area.

6. Limited pain. In most cases, only a mild painkiller is required during the recovery phases. The swelling can be treated with ice packs or a hot compress, and an over the counter painkiller can help reduce pain from the bruises.

7. Results within months. Most people begin to see results just three to six months after the surgery, and these typically improve each month thereafter. After the bruising and swelling disappear, the face 'adjusts' to the fat removal relatively easily so that the outcome looks very natural.

8. Tightens and tones the skin. Facial liposuction can tighten and tone the skin after the fat removal process. As the dermal layer of the skin and skin tissues heal, the skin can become much more firm and resilient.
If you're looking for a way to enhance the face and achieve a youthful and attractive appearance, facial liposuction offers several benefits. With a speedy recovery time and reduced risk of complications, facial liposuction may be the simplest way to improve your appearance.

Natural Healing With Energy Medicine

The body has a powerful ability to heal itself when given the tools it needs to stay healthy. We cannot entirely remove anxiety from our lives, but we can create lifestyles that reduce stress and toxins so the natural healing process can take place.

In the eastern hemisphere, medicine targets the mind, body and spirit while western medicine tends to treat symptoms through time-tested scientific methods. Although the two approaches represent opposite ends of the same spectrum, practitioners and clients are discovering that they actually complement each other. Using western and eastern philosophies together is known as integrative medicine.

Scientists now know that everything consists of energy, and that includes everything from our mitochondria to our thoughts and feelings. Our cells send out electrical impulses, collectively creating magnetic energy fields around our bodies. When this energy becomes imbalanced by stress, trauma or toxins, we develop diseases.
The goal of natural medicine, also known as energy healing, is to remove blockages in the body's energy system so it can return to ideal health. Although new to traditional medicine, this philosophy originated thousands of years ago. Today it encompasses countless methods and theories.

Eight Kinds of Energy Healing

- Energy healers use their hands to send vital life energy to the magnetic field around the body. Modalities include Healing Touch, Pranic Healing, Reiki and medical qigong.

- Chinese medicine revolves around energy channels called meridians. Acupuncture uses needles to stimulate energy points along the meridians while acupressure applies physical force. Energy in Chinese medicine is known as "chi."

- Qigong is an ancient form of martial arts that uses soft, sweeping motions to bring qi into the body and balance its magnetic field. "Qi" is the Japanese word for energy.

- Yoga, Sanskrit for "joining of the body, mind and spirit," dates back to Vedic teachings in early India. The practice promotes clean living, gentle poses, breathing techniques and meditation as a way toward balanced living and union with source energy. In yoga, the word for energy is "prana."

- Massage is a broad term that refers to the physical manipulation of the body's connective tissues and muscles to bring about healing. Kinds of massage include craniosacral therapy, deep tissue, Swedish, Shiatsu and Thai. Soothing music and aromatherapy go well with the art of massage.

- Emotional Freedom Technique involves the process of tapping on various parts of the body to release buried emotions so it can replenish its own energy.

- Sound therapy uses sound vibrations to resonate with different parts of the body. Like energy, sound waves vibrate at specific speeds and are able to repair subtle energy patterns.

- Meditation refers to a group of techniques that use the mind to change one's state of awareness. Its physical, mental and spiritual benefits are well-documented by scientific research.

Although there are many other techniques of natural healing, all seek to return the energetic body to its original state so that physical and emotional healing can occur. All kinds of healing are most effective when used as part of a daily practice. Most methods complement each other and western medicine.
