Effective Ways To Deal With Back Pain During Pregnancy

Many women report experiencing back pain during pregnancy. Why does this happen? For the most part, it has to do with the fact that women are carrying an extra 25 to 35 pounds during pregnancy. The truth is, many women gain even more weight than that.

Given the fact that all of this added weight is concentrated around the belly area, a women's center of gravity is pushed forward. To compensate, many women over-arch the lower part of their back. This triggers a chain reaction of events that ultimately lead to back pain.

Another reason why women experience pain during pregnancy has to do with a specific hormone that is released into the body. This hormone helps the pelvis expand to make room for the child as it grows and develops inside the womb. However, ligaments located in the spinal region are also loosened which ultimately results in a woman's back muscles having to work harder.

Many pregnancy experts highly recommend that a woman seek out a the services of a highly skilled chiropractor early in the process. The reason why this is so important is because a chiropractor can dramatically reduce the amount of back pain that is experienced during pregnancy.

Here are some additional tips that pregnant women can start implementing right away:

1) Pay Attention To Your Posture

To the extent you find yourself having to be seated for extended periods of time, try to make sure that you're in the most comfortable position possible. Try to sit so that your hips and lower back are touching the back of a chair that you're seated on and that your knees are bent at a 90 degree angle.

2) Make Sure That You Lift Things Properly

Don't just bend over and pick something up -- you should instead make an effort to lower yourself using your legs and knees and then rise up with whatever it is you're trying to pick up without having to excessively bend your back.

3) Try To Stay As Active As Possible

A combination of stretching and low-impact cardiovascular exercises can help keep your body feeling agile and pain-free. Something as simple as taking a walk can really make a big difference in helping to keep your body feeling as strong and as fit as possible during pregnancy. It can also help release endorphins into your body which can relieve pain.

As mentioned before, you really owe it to yourself to seek out the help and guidance of a pregnancy chiropractor. You'll be amazed by just how much better you'll feel.
